Olerai Cabin is let on a self catering basis and located in a private 300-acre wildlife sanctuary, on the northern shores of Lake Naivasha, in the Great Rift Valley. It is a colourful and cosy private house, refurbished in 2013, with its own garden. It sits under the canopy of towering acacia trees, with emerald green lawns that stretch down to the lake shore. The wildlife sanctuary is teaming with gazelle, giraffe, waterbuck, colobus monkeys and impala and over 150 species of bird. At night you can see as many as 20 hippos grazing on the lake shore. It combines nature, adventure and relaxation. It makes for a perfect getaway for a family or group of friends.
Olerai Cabin has two bedrooms, one double and one twin (an extra bed can be added for a child under 16) with a shared bathroom, dining and sitting room area, kitchen, and verandah. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, fridge, freezer, cutlery and crockery. The house has a lovely verandah with an external table and chairs, two garden sun beds and a barbecue grill.
Home made ready cooked meals can be ordered directly from the booking office, together with fresh milk, a basket of organic vegetables, fresh baked bread, scones, brioches and other cakes, which is produced by the farm. Or if you feel like a delicious lunch and a swim you can book a table at Olerai House lodge, which is close by.
Location: Lake Naivasha is one of a string of lakes between the volcanoes of the Great Rift Valley. A freshwater lake at the highest elevation of the Kenyan Rift valley – at 1,884 metres (6,181 ft) – Naivasha nestles in a complex geological cradle of volcanic rocks and sedimentary deposits. The name derives from the local Maasai name Nai’posha, meaning “rough water” because of the sudden storms which can arise. The lake is home to over 400 different species of bird, and many other animals such as buffalo, hippo, zebra, impala, leopard and giraffe.
